Mission:
To honor the nearly three thousand victims of the 1993 and 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

About the Organization:
The National September 11 Memorial and Museum Foundation was formally launched in 2005, when it began to work with the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation on the design and construction management plan for the memorial and museum at the World Trade Center site. As of June, 70 percent of the steel for the memorial and museum had been erected.

Current Programs:
The design for the National September 11 Memorial was selected through an international design competition in 2003. The winning design consists of a pair of one-acre pools set within the "footprint" of the Twin Towers, with the largest man-made waterfalls in the country cascading down their respective sides. Surrounding the memorial will be a plaza featuring benches, gathering areas, nearly four hundred trees, and other greenery.

The museum will feature an auditorium for public performances, a private suite reserved for victims' family members, and exhibitions of artifacts associated with the events of 9/11.
