NPO Spotlight - Genesys Works
To help economically disadvantaged high school students enter and thrive in the economic mainstream by providing them with the knowledge and work experience needed to succeed as professionals.
About the Organization:
Genesys Works invites inner-city high school students to acquire meaningful work experience that they can use to succeed as professionals in the business world. In its first year of operation, the organization enrolled ten students with a single corporate partner. Today, Genesys serves more than three hundred students a year in Houston and St. Paul and works with more than forty corporate partners. More than 95 percent of the organization's graduates — most of whom are the first in their family to attend college — enroll in an undergraduate program immediately after high school.
Students spend eight weeks during the summer prior to their senior year learning about information technology, drafting, or accounting/finance at major corporations while practicing the communication techniques needed to succeed in a business environment. Following graduation, students can join the Genesys Alumni program, which provides them with additional opportunities to continue their development into well-rounded professionals.
The Genesys Works site features resources for students, including information about each professional program and an application form. Participating businesses can learn more about the organization's services, while visitors to the site can read about Gensys in the news or connect with the organization via Facebook.
Genesys Works receives support from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
