PND Connections - On the Rise: A Profile of Women of Color in Nonprofit Leadership A new study from CompassPoint Nonprofit Services indicates that minority females who lead nonprofit organizations are better educated and have more managerial experience than their male or white counterparts. The report, On the Rise: A Profile of Women of Color in Nonprofit Leadership (36 pages, PDF), draws upon written surveys from nearly fifty women executive directors of color in the Bay Area to create a profile of the average minority female nonprofit leader: She has a master's degree, has worked in the nonprofit sector for fourteen years, and is confident in her ability to connect with minority communities. However, the report also shows that women directors frequently lack access to people in power and have to battle stereotypes. Produced with funding from the Levi Strauss Foundation, the report not only provides a wealth of demographic information but also discusses job challenges faced by women directors, how they balance their lives, and their interest in networking activities.
