Developing Messages That Prompt Action
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
9:00 -10:30 a.m.
In today's over-saturated communications environment, an organization's message is a major strategic element in its success - or failure. That's why the chief executive, not the development or communication director, has ultimate responsibility for whether the organization uses messages that connect with target audiences and compel their action.
In this program, Rebecca K. Leet, an expert in message development, explains why and how to create messages that prompt audiences to listen to what you say and take the action you want. Specifically, you will learn to:
- Recognize the six aspects of nonprofit culture that impeded development of effective messages
- Understand the five principles of underlying development of strategic messages
- Create a simple five-step process for developing messages
This program will be especially beneficial for executive directors who are trying to move mission-critical audiences, such as grantmakers, program participants, activists, volunteers, policymakers, and others, to take action.
Rebecca K. Leet has consulted for nonprofit organizations and foundations for more than 20 years. She is the author of Message Matters: Succeeding at the Crossroads of Mission and Market (2007, Fieldstone Alliance), which is the first book in the nonprofit sector on strategic messages.
