Purpose of the grant:
To provide comprehensive medical and dental health care to children from birth to age 21 living in the District's most medically under-served neighborhoods.

Impact:
The Children's Health Project of DC, an independent project of the national New York Children's Health Fund and Children's National Medical Center, serves communities in the Anacostia region of southeastern Washington, DC.

In the region of DC served by the CHPDC, children and youth experience a high degree of socioeconomic and environmental risk factors that often give rise to developmental delays and long-term health problems. These factors include high incidences of infant mortality, infant morbidity, teenage pregnancy, low birth-weights, prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol and child abuse and neglect.

The Children's Health Project of DC provides comprehensive primary care at sites situated around public housing, within walking distance of schools. To address the increasingly unmet dental needs of its patients, the project provides full dental services via a mobile dental unit.

Mission:
The Children’s Health Fund is committed to providing comprehensive health care to the nation’s most medically underserved children through the development and support of innovative primary care medical programs and the promotion of guaranteed access to appropriate health care for all children.
