Purpose of the grant:
To support the Community Environmental Health Resource Center, which helps grassroots and community-based organizations make housing environmentally safe for all children.

Impact:
Alliance for Healthy Homes was founded in 1990 as the Alliance To End Childhood Lead Poisoning. Its name change in July of 2003 reflects the expansion of its work to address other housing-related health hazards.

Alliance for Healthy Homes strives to:

  • shift the focus of national policy from reaction — treating children after they were lead-poisoned — to primary prevention.

  • promote effective federal programs and standards, while helping community advocates, local and state agencies, and other stakeholders strengthen prevention policies and practices.

  • bring both experience and fierce commitment to finding solutions that are affordable and practical for the highest risk housing in low-income communities.

  • anchor a network of 200 community groups across the country working on lead poisoning prevention, affordable housing, healthy homes, and children’s environmental health.

Mission:
To protect children from lead and other environmental health hazards in and around their homes by advocating for policy solutions and building capacity for primary prevention in communities throughout the United States.
