Purpose of the grant:
For its Employment and Leadership Program to assist low-wage immigrant workers in securing daily, temporary and permanent employment.

Community impact:
CASA of Maryland is a community organization founded in 1985 by Central-American refugees and North Americans in response to the human needs of the thousands of Central Americans arriving to the area after fleeing wars and civil strife in their countries of origin. While CASA was established to meet the special needs of the Central-American population, we serve immigrants from virtually every country in Latin America, as well as Africans, Asians and U.S. citizens, as needed.

CASA, with the help of local congregations, foundations, area businesses, and hundreds of dedicated individuals and volunteers, has worked to meet the urgent material needs of low-income Latinos through social and educational services. During the past 11 years, CASA has grown to respond to the diverse needs of the Latin-American immigrant and refugee community. The organization's social, educational and advocacy services have established it as a center for community assistance.

Mission:
Casa's mission is to improve the quality of life and economic and social well-being of the Latino community in the metropolitan Washington area. CASA facilitates the self-development, organization, and mobilization of the Latino community to achieve full participation in the larger society. CASA achieves these goals through programs in areas such as education, housing, employment, legal, health, and social services.
