The Annie E. Casey Foundation Names the 2004 FAMILIES COUNT National Honorees
The Annie E. Casey Foundation recently named five nonprofit organizations as 2004
FAMILIES COUNT honorees. The FAMILIES COUNT program recognizes and celebrates organizations that improve the odds for vulnerable children by helping them have what they need most — strong, capable and economically successful families.
Two out of the five organizations are located in the District. Asian American LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, and Development) builds community strength by supporting immigrant families and helping them gain access to services. Calvary Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center serves as a source of hope for families in DC's diverse Columbia Heights neighborhood.
The other recipients included Connectinc., Battleboro, NC; Family Services Woodfield, Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Mutual Assistance Network of Del Paso Heights, Sacramento, California.
The 2004 honorees join 31 other organizations that have become honorees since the program began in 2000. Each organization receives an unrestricted award of $500,000.
