Case Foundation Explores Civic Engagement in Digital Age

The Case Foundation recently released a discussion paper and created a blog to explore how a new generation and new technologies are changing the civic landscape.

The paper, Social CitizensBETA, was written by Allison Fine, author of Momentum: Igniting Social Change in the Connected Age, an award-winning book about using the Internet to build activist networks, pool information, and create lasting solutions to social challenges, both in the U.S. and around the world. Her discussion paper focuses on the potential impact of the Millennial Generation on the civic landscape. It addresses the unique characteristics of Millennials, who have grown up in the digital age and are equipped with innovative tools and ideas for creating change.

You can request a copy of the discussion paper or download it from the Case Foundation web site.

The Social Citizens Blog was created as an accompaniment to the paper, with the goal to generate debate and input from the new generation on civic issues. As Kari Dunn, Director of Social Investment for the Case Foundation, says, "it's your answers, experiences, and counterpoints that are going to help us kick-start a great conversation, and figure out exactly what makes civically engaged Millennials - and Social Citizens - tick."

Jean and Steve Case founded the Case Foundation in 1997 to reflect their family's heartfelt commitment to finding lasting solutions to complex social challenges. The foundation's web site provides this statement to sum up the Social Citizens project:

"Idealism. Digital fluency. Immersion in social causes. Each attribute is essential to bringing about positive, lasting change. So imagine what can be accomplished when all three combine."
