NPO Spotlight - Flint Institute of Music

Mission:
To change lives through a lifelong continuum of world-class music, theater, and dance.

About the Organization:
Clustered with other arts organizations at the Flint Cultural Center, the Flint Institute of Music comprises the Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Flint School of Performing Arts, and the Flint Youth Theatre.

Current Programs:
Led by Maestro Enrique Diemecke, the Flint Symphony Orchestra performs a variety of concerts throughout the year, including classical concerts, Holiday Pops, and the Nutcracker. The largest music school in the state, the Flint School of Performing Arts provides music and dance opportunities for students of all ages. Since 1957, the Flint Youth Theatre has offered a range of classes and programs year-round for elementary and secondary school children, including the Learning Through Theatre series and InterACT. Made up of a string quartet and a storyteller from the Flint Institute of Music, the Troubadors group visits elementary schools and helps weaves music lessons into the school's curriculum. In addition, FIM holds a number of annual special events, including a fundraising dinner, a gala, and an auction.

Web Site:
Visitors to the FIM Web site can access news and announcements on the organization's blogs; browse a list of upcoming events; purchase tickets; keep in touch with the organization via social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter; and/or make a donation.

Funding:
The Flint Institute of Music receives funding from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as from foundations and individuals.
