NPO Spotlight - NatureBridge
Mission:
To inspire personal connections to the natural world and responsible actions to sustain it.
About the Organization:
For nearly forty years, NatureBridge (formerly Yosemite National Institutes) has provided environmental education in outdoor classrooms for students at every grade level. Each year, the organization helps more than thirty thousand youth from diverse backgrounds connect with nature through field science education, teacher training programs, and youth leadership.
Current Programs:
NatureBridge operates four environmental education campuses through which it offers various programs, including the Armstrong Scholars and Summer Field Research programs at the Yosemite Institute, the Teen Environmental Action Mentorship (TEAM) program at Headlands Institute on the shores of Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands, and the Natural Connections program at the Olympic Park Institute. The organization's fourth campus, the Santa Monica Mountains Institute, which was launched earlier this year as a pilot program in partnership with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, is expected to serve ten thousand youth a year. At each campus, NatureBridge connects participants to nature through programs informed by a core educational framework and that engage all the senses while building academic, social, and emotional skills.
Web Site:
The NatureBridge Web site offers background information about the organization, videos and photos taken at its campuses, and a number of blogs. Visitors to the site can also browse recent news and announcements and make a donation.
Funding:
NatureBridge is supported by a combination of earned revenue, grants from foundations and corporations, and contributions from individuals.
