NPO Spotlight - Young Musicians Foundation
Mission:
To preserve the heritage of classical music by supporting music education and performance opportunities for young people in Southern California and beyond.
About the Organization:
Founded in 1955, the Young Musicians Foundation provides performance opportunities, financial assistance, and community outreach programming to support the personal, academic, and artistic development of young musicians from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. In an effort to keep classical music alive, the organization also works to develop audiences that include young listeners.
Current Programs:
YMF has two programming branches — Artist Development and Assistance, and Education and Community Outreach. The former encompasses the Debut! pre-professional training orchestra, the YMF/Balmat National Orchestra Camp, and the YMF Chamber Music Series. Under the umbrella of Education and Community Outreach, YMF partners with groups like the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and local school districts on a range of programs, including the Scholarship Fund for Diversity, Harps in Our Public Schools Project, and the Instrument Loan Program.
Web Site:
The YMF Web site provides an introductory video about the organization as well as information on upcoming events and how to donate.
Funding:
YMF earns revenue from special events and receives support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government programs.
