Founded in 1943, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development is an international, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that represents 160,000 educators from more than 135 countries and 66 affiliates. Its members span the entire profession of educators — superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members. ASCD offers broad, multiple perspectives in reporting key policies and practices.

Established in 2001 by the Los Angeles-based Broad Foundation and then Michigan Governor John Engler, the Center's mission is to raise student achievement in large urban school systems by recruiting, training and supporting the next generation of urban school district CEOs. The Center offers a suite of executive development programs for aspiring and current superintendents. The Center's programs are particularly focused on identifying talented leaders from outside the field of education who have the passion, dedication and skill to take on executive leadership roles in urban education.
