Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Accepting Applications From Presenting Organizations for ArtsCONNECT
The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation is accepting applications for ArtsCONNECT, a program to increase access to live performing arts engagements of excellence for audiences across the nine-state mid-Atlantic region. The program supports touring projects proposed by presenter consortia based in the region that include public performances and complementary activities designed to foster greater appreciation for artists’ work, enhance the concert experience, and offer meaningful exchanges between artists and the public. The program supports tours of exemplary artists involving all performing arts disciplines, including dance, music, theater, multi-disciplinary work, and folk/traditional arts. ArtsCONNECT is designed to bring artists of the highest quality to audiences throughout the mid-Atlantic region, especially those in underserved communities, to the widest geographic extent possible. For the purposes of this program, MAAF defines a presenter as an organization that selects and engages professional touring artists to perform before general audiences in its community and manages the logistics in connection with those performances as an ongoing and significant component of their organization’s activity. Presenters manage all the local requirements for the performance and facilitate the interaction between artists and audiences. Producing organizations, which solely create artistic work or assemble artists to perform as ensembles for performances, are not eligible to apply to ArtsCONNECT. Applicants must be based in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, or West Virginia. Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or be a unit of state or local government. Each consortium must include at least three presenters from a minimum of two eligible states or jurisdictions. All consortium members must be based outside the home state or jurisdiction of the proposed artist. (Limited exceptions apply to New York State-based artists and presenters.) Grant amounts typically will not exceed $10,000 per presenter. Presenters must apply for a minimum of $500 per engagement. Grants are made directly to each presenter in a consortium whose project has been approved for support. The March 19, 2012, deadline is for projects taking place between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013. MAAF has released a listing of ArtsCONNECT projects in development. This listing is designed to be a resource for presenters interested in participating in projects or seeking partners for collaboration as they plan an application for the upcoming round. Visit the MAAF Web site for complete program guidelines, application procedures, and the list of projects in development.
