Taubman Medical Research Institute Establishes New International Translational Science Prize

Taubman Medical Research Institute Establishes New International Translational Science Prize

The A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute at the University of Michigan, which seeks to support medical scientists in developing effective treatments for some of the world's most devastating illnesses, has announced the establishment of the $100,000 annual Taubman Prize for Excellence in Translational Medical Science.

The new award is designed to recognize work in the crucial field of translational research — research, like that supported by the Taubman Institute, which seeks to transform laboratory discoveries into clinical applications for patients suffering from disease.

The judging criteria include the significance of the nominee's contribution to translating basic research findings into medical practice, and the manner in which the nominee's clinical activities connect to his or her laboratory research.

The prize program is open to scientists worldwide. Self-nomination is permitted. University of Michigan scientists are excluded from consideration.

The award will be presented at the institute's annual symposium, held each fall. The winner will be asked to serve as keynote speaker for the event.

Complete program guidelines and the nomination form are available at the Taubman Institute Web site.
