Neilsen Foundation Invites Letters of Intent for Clinical and Scientific Research Grants Addressing Spinal Cord Injury
Neilsen Foundation Invites Letters of Intent for Clinical and Scientific Research Grants Addressing Spinal Cord Injury
The mission of the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation is to improve the quality of life for those living with spinal cord injury (SCI) and to support scientific exploration for effective therapies and treatments leading to a cure.
The foundation sponsors two cycles of clinical and scientific research grants each year: basic-applied research in the United States and Canada that seeks to understand the biological basis for recovery of function after SCI and enables the translation of these findings to a clinical setting; and translational-preclinical or clinical research in the U.S. and Canada designed to develop new treatments for SCI. The foundation is interested in funding projects that are designed to improve and advance the current treatment for acute and chronic spinal cord dysfunction.
Applications are invited for the following research grant funding categories:
The Neilsen Postdoctoral Fellowship Research Grant is available to individuals with a Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or comparable research degree received within five years of the application due date. Grants are intended to provide mentored research training for scientists engaged in SCI research and provide two years of funding at $75,000 per year.
The Neilsen Pilot Research Grant is for junior investigators beyond the postdoctoral level (i.e., instructor, assistant professor, or equivalent research position), or for research projects that are considered "high risk/high gain." Grants provide two years of funding at $150,000 per year.
The Neilsen Senior Research Grant is for established investigators (i.e., at the level of associate professor or above). Applicants should have a proven track record of SCI research experience. Grants provide three years of funding at $200,000 per year.
Applicants for any grant may address basic-applied science, translational-preclinical, or clinical (human subjects) research projects. Applicants also must work in a nonprofit academic institution, research organization/institution, or rehabilitation facility with a demonstrated capability to conduct grant funded research. Applicants are not required to be a citizen of the U.S. or Canada; however, they must be employed by an eligible organization or institution located in either country and have a Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or other equivalent professional degree at the time of the LOI submission.
Visit the Neilsen Foundation Web site for complete program guidelines, specific eligibility requirements for each grant category, and information on previously funded projects.
