Applications Open for 2013 Cohort of Kinship Conservation Fellows

Applications Open for 2013 Cohort of Kinship Conservation Fellows

The Kinship Foundation has opened applications for its 2013 cohort of Kinship Conservation Fellows.

The goal of the annual program is to develop a community of leaders dedicated to collaborative approaches to environmental issues, with an emphasis on market-based principles.

The month-long program supports mid-career practitioners seeking to effectively implement market-based mechanisms for conservation by honing their skills in leadership, communication, economics, and business and finance. To date, a hundred and seventy-four fellows in forty-six countries and on six continents have been selected as fellows.

Fellows are provided with intensive in-residence instruction in best practices for implementing conservation projects using market-based mechanisms and are trained to look beyond their technical and scientific capacities to understand the economic and business contexts influencing conservation worldwide. Fellows also gain entry to an active learning community that will continue to support them through a growing network of regional chapters and affinity groups and that provides access to new opportunities for engaging in collaboration and thought-leadership.

Mid-career conservation practitioners with at least five years of field experience, a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent), and a demonstrated desire to innovate are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will have at least some exposure to business and economic principles and be in a work environment where these principles can be integrated with conservation work.

The 2013 program will take place on the campus of Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, from June 29 through July 26. Eighteen applicants will be selected as fellows and awarded a $6,000 stipend and lodging.

Visit the fellows program Web site for complete program information and application procedures.
