Nominations Invited for Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards
Nominations Invited for Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards
Based on the Jewish concept of tikkun olam ("repairing the world"), the Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards seek to recognize teenagers in the United States who are exceptional role models in their communities and beyond.
The awards celebrate teens who have demonstrated remarkable leadership and are actively engaged in projects that embody the values of tikkun olam. Projects may benefit the Jewish community or the general community.
To be eligible for nomination, teens must be U.S. residents who self-identify as Jewish and be 13 to 19 years of age at the time of their nomination. Teens wishing to self-nominate do not need to submit a nomination form; instead, they will be asked for additional information on the application form as well as one additional reference. Nominations may not be submitted by a teen's family members. Teens cannot be nominated on the basis of work for which they receive compensation.
Up to ten teens, five from California and five from other U.S. communities, will be acknowledged for their visionary actions with an award of $36,000 to be used to further their philanthropic work or education.
Nominations must be submitted by January 6, 2013. Each nominated teen must submit the online application and two references (or three if the teen is self-nominated) by January 20, 2013. Family members and nominators are not eligible as references.
Complete program information and the online nomination and reference forms are available at the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and Sonoma Counties Web site.
