AIDS United Invites Grant Applications for Southern REACH Program
AIDS United Invites Grant Applications for Southern REACH Program
With funding from the Ford Foundation, AIDS United administers the Southern REACH (Regional Expansion of Access and Capacity to Address HIV/AIDS) initiative to support improvement of the HIV/AIDS-focused policy and advocacy activities of community-based organizations in nine Southern states (Alabama, Arkansas, northern Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). The program is designed to support efforts to shape responsible HIV/AIDS public policy and/or respond to the underlying legal, political, and systemic barriers contributing to the disproportionate rates of HIV/AIDS in the targeted states.
Grants will be provided to organizations serving historically disenfranchised populations that are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. An emphasis will be placed on engaging organizations that have strong access to priority populations, including civil rights and social justice organizations that may not make HIV/AIDS work their primary mission and may not regularly access traditional HIV/AIDS funding streams. Southern REACH will also prioritize funding for organizations that are explicitly committed to addressing HIV as a racial justice issue.
In this grantmaking cycle, Southern REACH will fund projects in three categories: 1) addressing the HIV/AIDS-related needs of Latino/a populations in the South; 2) self-identified state and/or local jurisdiction HIV/AIDS policy advocacy priorities; and 3) moving toward a unified vision through advocacy and capacity building.
Applicants must be nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations operating in one of the eligible states.
Applicants may apply for funding of up to a maximum of $100,000. Funds may be used for general operating support, direct personnel expenses, or consultant costs for policy advocacy efforts, and indirect expenses directly related to the proposed policy advocacy project activities (not to exceed 15 percent).
The complete RFP and application procedures are available at the AIDS United Web site.
