Entries Invited for Washington Post 2013 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management

The Center for Nonprofit Advancement and the Washington Post Co. are inviting applications from nonprofit organizations in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to apply for the Washington Post 2013 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.

Now in its nineteenth year, the competition seeks to identify and reward management competence, recognize innovation, and promote sustainable best practices that lead to excellence in nonprofit management.

The competition is open to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Washington, D.C., metro area, s defined as the District of Columbia; Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, St. Mary's, and Prince George's counties, Maryland; and Arlington County, the City of Alexandria, the City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, the City of Falls Church, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, the City of Manassas, Manassas Park, Prince William County, and Stafford County, Virginia.

Applications are invited from organizations small or large, new or well-established. In reviewing applications, the selection committee will take into account the management resources available to each organization in terms of funding, staff, and volunteers.

A $10,000 grant will be presented to the winning organization. The organization's executive director will also receive a scholarship to the Georgetown University Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership Certificate Program. Up to four organizations will be recognized with an honorable mentions and a $2,500 grant award. The winning organization and the honorable mention recipients also will be recognized by the Washington Post. All applicants will receive feedback on their management practices from the award selection committee.

An optional information session for applicants will be held on December 6, 2012. Advance registration is required.
