Applications Invited for Simons Foundation Award for Graduate Students in Theoretical Computer Science
The Simons Foundation is accepting applications for the Simons Award for Graduate Students in Theoretical Computer Science program. These awards will be made to graduate students with an outstanding track record of research accomplishments.
Theoretical computer science is unique in that graduate students working independently produce some of the best results in the field. The Award for Graduate Students is designed to identify and support these students and enable them to pursue collaborations with peers and more senior researchers.
To be eligible, the applicant must be a graduate student who has completed two, three, or four years at a United States or Canadian institution of higher education. A track record of outstanding results in theoretical computer science is the key criterion. There are no citizenship requirements. For-profit organizations may not apply. There is a limit of two applications per university.
Awards provide up to $24,000 a year for two years. An awardee must be a graduate student for the duration of the award. Each award will provide up to $8,500 a year for the awardee to use at his/her discretion (e.g., travel to summer research locations or to conferences, equipment, books, personal computer); up to $9,000 a year for summer salary support; $2,500 a year to help enhance the research atmosphere of the awardee's department; and $4,000 to the institution for administrative expenses. Between ten and fifteen awards will be made annually.
Complete program guidelines and application instructions are available at the Simons Foundation Web site.
