Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation Announces Opening of Front Porch Grant Cycle
Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation Announces Opening of Front Porch Grant Cycle
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, a permanent endowment at the Foundation for the Carolinas that envisions a community where every resident of Mecklenburg County is afforded the opportunity to be well educated, safely housed, meaningfully employed, and actively engaged in community decisions, is accepting applications for its 2013 Front Porch Grants Program.
Front Porch Grants help neighborhood associations, social clubs, school groups, and other civic organizations take tangible action that helps create the type of community they want to see in the future. The program is designed to foster the building of social capital between and among individuals, communities, neighborhoods, and organizations. The goal of the program is to increase trust, build bridges across differences, and expand social connections and informal networks by building relationships. The program was named to recognize the power of the "front porch" — a simple gathering place where people can meet and begin to build relationships — and will award grants of up to $2,500 to support the creation of small-scale efforts to that end.
Grants will be awarded to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, congregations, and governmental and educational institutions for projects that serve the residents of Mecklenburg County and meet the funding priorities of the program. If the organization conducting the project is not eligible to apply for a grant, it can apply under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization.
The 2013 grant cycle will be conducted through an online application process that requires an initial step of registering on the Foundation for the Carolinas Web site.
Registration should be completed by November 30, 2012, to ensure sufficient time to gain access to and complete the application.
