Applications Invited for Alaska Teen Suicide Prevention Grant Program
Applications Invited for Alaska Teen Suicide Prevention Grant Program
The Alaska Children's Trust and the Alaska Community Foundation are accepting applications for the Teen Suicide Prevention Grant Program.
The Teen Suicide Prevention program seeks applications for projects that will directly enhance community-based efforts to prevent teen suicide. Applications will be accepted from qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit or equivalent organizations located in the state of Alaska. Equivalent organizations may include tribes, schools, churches, and local government agencies and programs. Organizations anywhere in the state of Alaska are encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate the organization and/or community contribution to the proposed project.
Preference will be given to projects that incorporate a strategy or strategies outlined in the Alaska State Suicide Prevention Plan FY 2012-17 and that are designed to empower Alaskans to work together to promote community wellness.
Examples of potential projects include but are not limited to event-based projects supporting a community's culture camp or local efforts to keep the school building open during summer break; social marketing projects that educate community members of the signs of suicide and steps they can take to prevent it, or advertising resources to help youth who are feeling suicidal; and projects providing educational sessions for community members on how to care for a teen in crisis.
The one-time grants will range from $2,000 to $5,000 for a project period of one year.
