Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Accepting Applications From North Carolina Nonprofit Leaders for Sabbatical Grants
Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Accepting Applications From North Carolina Nonprofit Leaders for Sabbatical Grants
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation invites North Carolina nonprofit organization leaders who seek personal renewal and professional growth to apply for funding to support sabbaticals.
The foundation supports sabbaticals of three to six months during which nonprofit leaders take a leave of absence from their organizations . Sabbatical recipients may use this time to engage in non-professional development activities of their own choosing to aid in personal renewal and growth. While on sabbatical, award recipients travel, study, read, reflect, rest, and/or explore interests unrelated to their field of work. It is the foundation's hope that sabbatical recipients return to work recommitted to the challenges and rewards of public service and thus prolong their tenure in the nonprofit sector.
Eligible applicants are individuals in paid, full-time leadership positions who have served their North Carolina nonprofit organizations for at least three years (two of them in a leadership role). Preference is given to individuals with at least five years of experience. The program is not designed for career public school, college, university, or government employees.
Five sabbatical recipients per year are selected based on a number of selection criteria, including the applicant's professional accomplishments, evidence of the need for a sabbatical, potential for future contributions in his or her chosen field of work, and the difficulty of his or her work environment.
Each recipient receives $25,000 to support him or herself during the sabbatical. Recipients are expected to be released completely from their organizational obligations during their sabbatical.
Visit the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Web site for complete program guidelines and the application form.
