Pre-Proposals Invited for Longleaf Stewardship Fund
Pre-Proposals Invited for Longleaf Stewardship Fund
In partnership with government agencies and the Southern Company, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation established the Longleaf Stewardship Fund, a public-private initiative designed to help restore vanishing longleaf pine forests in the southeastern United States.
The fund is accepting pre-proposals to help accelerate the restoration and enhancement of the longleaf pine ecosystem.
Projects within the historical longleaf range in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas are eligible. State, local, and private lands in all eight states are eligible. Currently, work on federal lands is eligible only within the Southern Company operating area within Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle (west of the Apalachicola River). These projects must be part of projects where state, local, and/or private lands are also included.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit 501(c) organizations; state, tribal, and local governments; and academic institutions.
It is anticipated that approximately $2.5 million to $3.5 million in total funding will be available, with awards ranging from $50,000 to $350,000 (depending on the category for which the applicant is requesting funds and the overall scale of the project). Projects must have a match of at least 1:1 in non-federal cash or in kind contributions, but larger match ratios and matching fund contributions from a diversity of partners are encouraged and will be more competitive.
The complete Request for Proposals, eligible geographic area maps, and application materials are available at the NFWF Web site.
