Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation Seeks to Boost College Readiness
Arriving on campus academically underprepared is one of the most common factors preventing students from traditionally underserved backgrounds from succeeding in college. To address this issue, the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation has announced its College Ready grant program.
Through the program, grants of up to $300,000 will be awarded to sustain, improve, or replicate college-success programming during the 2013-14 academic year. The program is designed to support efforts to help students from low-income households, students of color, and students who will be first in their family to attend college prepare for academic success.
The following outcomes, proven to be strong indicators of college success, will be used to measure student achievement: ACT or SAT scores, grade-point average, or academic performance as indicated by pre- and post-test scores.
Community-based organizations and nonprofit colleges and universities in Minnesota and Wisconsin that provide academic-focused services to traditionally underserved students in grades 6-12 and adult learners are encouraged to apply.
Complete program guidelines and application procedures are available at the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation Web site.
