Knight News Challenge Open for Promising Ideas on Using Mobile Devices to Inform and Engage Communities
Knight News Challenge Open for Promising Ideas on Using Mobile Devices to Inform and Engage Communities
A program of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Knight News Challenge program is designed to accelerate media innovation by funding breakthrough ideas in news and information. Winners receive a share of $5 million in funding and support from Knight's network of influential peers and advisors to help advance their ideas. Throughout 2012, innovators from all industries and countries are invited to participate in three challenge rounds, each with focused topics on emerging trends.
The program has opened its third challenge round and will be accepting entries from August 29 until September 10. The challenge seeks to identify new tools and approaches that use mobile technology to inform and engage communities and build the foundation for others to do more in the future. This might include new mobile applications, tools to help journalists or others leverage mobile technology, platforms to empower mobile users, and so on. The challenge seeks submissions on a broad range of topics.
The competition is open to nonprofits, for-profits, and individuals of any age, anywhere in the world. Partnership projects are also eligible. (Awards to minors will be made to an intermediary designated by Knight Foundation.)
Entrants are asked to submit their projects by providing brief answers to eight questions at the newschallenge.org Tumblr).
Visit the Knight Foundation Web site for the complete program announcement and entry instructions.
