Alaskan Nonprofit Organization and Tribal Executives Invited to Apply for 2013 Rasmuson Foundation Sabbatical Program

Executives from Alaska tribes and all nonprofit sectors are eligible to apply for the 2013 Rasmuson Foundation Sabbatical Program, which is designed to provide time away from the office for rest, personal renewal, and professional growth.

There have been forty-three sabbatical recipients since the program began in 2004. This year, the foundation has increased its sabbatical awards to up to $40,000 to cover salary and expenses incurred during a two- to six-month sabbatical.

To be eligible, the applicant must hold the position of CEO, president, executive director, or tribal administrator, and must be an Alaska resident with at least five years in the nonprofit sector and at least three years in his or her current position. The applicant's organization must be an Alaska 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tribal entity, or equivalent.

The two primary criteria for selection are the benefit of the sabbatical to the individual and the organization, and the demonstrated ability of the organization to sustain itself in the executive's absence. The application requires a written plan for how the organization will be managed in the leader's absence and a letter from the organization's board endorsing their executive's decision to apply for the sabbatical.

Eligible individuals can apply by downloading application materials from the Rasmuson Foundation Web site. Leaders also can be nominated online (an application package will be mailed to the nominee).
