Southwest Airlines Accepting Applications From Hospitals and Charities to Participate in 2013 Medical Transportation Grant Program

Southwest Airlines has announced a call for applications from hospitals and medical transportation charities in the United States to participate in the carrier's 2013 Medical Transportation Grant Program.

The program provides complimentary, roundtrip tickets to nonprofit hospitals and medical transportation nonprofit organizations. The tickets are distributed by the organizations to deserving patients and their caregivers who must travel for medical care. Southwest allows participating hospitals and medical transportation nonprofit organizations the freedom to determine how to distribute the tickets to their patients and/or caregivers.

To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit hospital offering specialized care, or a nonprofit medical transportation organization whose primary mission is to assist patients with their transportation needs. In an effort to further reduce any stress on the patient and/or their caregiver, Southwest can only consider hospitals located within forty miles of a city that is served by Southwest Airlines.

In 2012, the program provided more than $2.4 million in free transportation to more than seventy hospitals and organizations nationwide for patients needing to travel for medical treatment.
