Native Environment Conservation Plan Offers Grants for Conservation Easements in Flint Hills of Kansas
Native Environment Conservation Plan Offers Grants for Conservation Easements in Flint Hills of Kansas
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, in cooperation with corporate and government partners, is offering grants for the permanent protection of tallgrass prairie in the Flint Hills of Kansas through the Native Environment Conservation Plan.
Funding will facilitate perpetual conservation easements for up to ten thousand acres in the Flint Hills. The objective is to support the protection and enhancement of tallgrass prairies while promoting vegetative resilience and restoring habitats to benefit the greater prairie chicken, grassland birds, migrating and nesting birds, and other grassland dependent wildlife.
The initiative will work with landowners to ensure that wildlife and environmental benefits are guaranteed through permanent easements held by the Kansas Land Trust ( http://www.klt.org/ ). All lands to be protected must be within the Flint Hills Legacy Conservation Area or the Heart of the Flint Hills. Priority for funding will be directed to proposals to protect the highest quality tallgrass prairie in the Flint Hills.
Eligible applicants include individual landowners, nonprofit 501(c) organizations, educational institutions, Native American tribes, and state or local units of governments (e.g., state conservation agencies, counties, townships, cities, conservation districts, utility districts, drainage districts, etc.).
Applicants are encouraged but not required to provide matching funds.
Phone calls and letters of interest are both acceptable forms of application.
Visit the NFWF Web site for the complete Request for Proposals, application instructions, and contact information.
