Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust Offers Fellows Program for Nonprofit Executives
A program of the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, the Piper Fellows program provides sabbaticals to build nonprofit leadership and organizational excellence in Maricopa County, Arizona.
The fellows program provides grants of up to $30,000 each to outstanding senior executives of nonprofit organizations serving Maricopa County to support their professional development, including study and travel. A fellow must take a minimum of one month to a maximum of two months' work release time from their organization. Fellow candidates are encouraged to explore educational and professional programs and visit model program sites and leaders in other communities.
The trust also awards $10,000 for staff and board professional development. A fellowship makes the fellow's organization eligible for a grant of up to $50,000 for a Piper Fellows Organizational Enhancement Award either during the sabbatical or within six months of completion.
Candidates must be employed by nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that serve Maricopa County, Arizona. These organizations must have been in operation for at least ten years prior to the time of their grant request and must be dedicated to efforts in the areas of human services, health, education, arts and culture, or religion. Private 509(a) foundation employees are not eligible.
Fellowship candidates should demonstrate proven leadership in both their organizations specifically and Maricopa County generally; have primary or significant responsibility with respect to the management of their organization's programs and funds; have at least ten years' experience in the nonprofit field (this experience need not have come from a single organization) with no significant hiatuses for the purpose of professional development; and have full-time employment status in the organization they represent.
