Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Invites Applications for New Connections: Increasing Diversity of RWJF Programming — Junior Investigator Program
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Invites Applications for New Connections: Increasing Diversity of RWJF Programming — Junior Investigator Program
New Connections: Increasing Diversity of RWJF Programming is designed to expand the diversity of perspectives that inform the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's programming and introduce new researchers and scholars to the foundation while simultaneously helping to meet staff needs for data analysis. The program invites junior investigators to submit proposals that address programming priorities for one of RWJF's program areas.
New Connections is a career development program designed to enhance the research capacity of scholars from underrepresented groups — ethnic or racial minority or low-income communities, first-generation college graduates (i.e., the first person in one's family to receive a college degree), or others who historically have been underrepresented in research disciplines. Priority will be given to applicants with full-time appointments at colleges and universities.
The program provides support and training to junior investigators to address program priorities for the foundation's teams and portfolios — Childhood Obesity, Coverage, Human Capital, Pioneer, Public Health, Quality/Equality, and Vulnerable Populations. Junior Investigators will address program area priorities in their proposals by using the most appropriate methodology as determined through the application process. Approaches may involve using secondary data analysis, systematic review, mixed methods, or other relevant and innovative methods. As appropriate, original data collection may be an option.
To be eligible, applicants must have completed a doctoral degree (including a J.D. for Public Health Law Research) no later than April 1, 2003; be United States citizens, resident non-citizen nationals, or resident foreign nationals at the time of application and not receiving support from other research fellowships/traineeships at the time they begin the program; be affiliated with or sponsored by a nonprofit university or an organization that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is not a private foundation as defined under Section 509(a) of the code; be from a group that has historically been underrepresented in research activities; have never received a prior grant from RWJF; be able to provide evidence of research skills that address various aspects of health and health care (research fellowship or equivalent training or experience); and be committed to the goals and mission of New Connections, RWJF, and its specific interest areas.
Up to ten two-year grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded. Of the ten grants awarded, as many as three grants will be designated for public health law research. RWJF will award grants to the junior investigator's home university or other home institution.
Visit the RWJF Web site for complete information about the program and how to apply.
