Point Loma Nazarene University Accepting Applications for Kyoto Prize Journalism Fellowship
Point Loma Nazarene University is accepting applications for its 2012 Kyoto Prize Journalism Fellowship program, which provides a learning opportunity for journalists seeking to further their knowledge and depth of reporting in technology, science, and the arts.
Created by the Inamori Foundation, the Kyoto Prize is an international award for lifetime achievement given to individuals and groups that have made outstanding contributions to humankind's scientific, cultural, and spiritual development. Each prize consists of a diploma, a Kyoto Prize medal, and a cash gift totaling 50 million yen (approximately $630,000). Individual laureates have ranged from scientists, engineers, and researchers to philosophers, painters, architects, sculptors, musicians, and film directors.
The fellowship experience is intended to enhance the journalist's ability to report on the historical context of the laureates' work and their impact on the world. The selected journalist will travel to Kyoto, Japan, in mid-November 2012, where he or she will attend the twenty-eighth annual Kyoto Prize presentation ceremony on November 10, as well as lectures and workshops over the following two days. During the week, the journalist will have opportunities to meet and interview the latest prize laureates.
The fellowship covers transportation, accommodations, and per-diem expenses.
Visit the Point Loma Nazarene University Web site for complete program information and the application form.
