Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Invites Applications for Fund for Creative Communities and Manhattan Community Arts Fund

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Invites Applications for Fund for Creative Communities and Manhattan Community Arts Fund

Administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Fund for Creative Communities and the Manhattan Community Arts Fund is providing grants of up to $5,000 for projects that bring high-quality art projects to places and people in Manhattan.

The Fund for Creative Communities is part of the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization program, a statewide community arts re-granting program. The fund seeks to support projects and activities that will enable Manhattan communities to experience and engage with the arts. Each year, the program awards close to $250,000 to support arts projects in the borough, including concerts, performances, public art, exhibitions, screenings, festivals, workshops, readings, and more. The fund supports small and midsized nonprofit organizations and artists that provide high-quality local arts programs. The fund also seeks to increase access to arts and cultural activities in Manhattan neighborhoods and to encourage new arts activities in communities where the need exists. Grants ranging from $750 to $5,000 are awarded to nonprofit organizations and artists working in partnership with a community-based organization or applying through a fiscal sponsor for projects which include a public component that will bring the arts to Manhattan nighborhoods. (Please note, the community partner and the fiscal sponsor cannot be a current applicant or a grantee of NYSCA.)

Made possible with support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Manhattan Community Arts Fund supports local nonprofit arts organizations and individual artists that have little or no access to government funding sources. An MCAF grant often is one of the first grants an artist or group receives and can help grant recipients leverage financial support from other sources. Approximately $250,000 in grants ranging from $750 to $5,000 are awarded each year.

Information sessions for both grant programs are offered each summer in ten locations across Manhattan. Sessions include a review of the programs and useful information to help applicants put their best foot forward. Attendance at an information session is required for first-time and returning applicants who have not attended since 2009.

Visit the LMCC Web site for complete program guidelines, eligibility requirements, an FAQ, and dates and details on the information sessions.
