Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Announces Updated Program Guidelines and Information Sessions for Creative Curricula K-12 Arts Education Program
Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Announces Updated Program Guidelines and Information Sessions for Creative Curricula K-12 Arts Education Program
The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Creative Curricula program provides grants to teaching artists or cultural organizations working with Manhattan public schools to provide K-12 arts education in the classroom. Creative Curricula is part of the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization program, a statewide community arts re-granting program. LMCC administers Creative Curricula for the borough of Manhattan.
LMCC has announced a number of important changes to this year's program. Funding is now available for sequential skills-based arts study of one or more art forms, as well as for projects that integrate arts and non-arts subjects. Individual teaching artists may now apply to the program directly and schools may no longer apply directly on behalf of the partnership. Applicants must not be applying for or receiving funds from NYSCA for the same fiscal year; and proposed school partners may not be engaged in any other partnerships receiving direct funding through NYSCA arts education grants. Only Manhattan public schools are eligible as partners; private, parochial, home, and charter schools are not eligible as project partners. All 2013 applicants must attend an information session in 2012, regardless of past application status.
Creative Curricula makes grants ranging from $750 to $5,000 to Manhattan-based individual teaching artists or small to mid-sized nonprofit cultural organizations (arts organizations, social service agencies, senior centers, faith-based organizations, folk societies, cultural centers, etc.) working in partnership with Manhattan public schools. The program supports projects providing in-depth opportunities for students to create and experience the arts through collaboratively planned and implemented units of study. Funding is provided for semester-long in-classroom projects for K-12 students that focus on 1) sequential skills-based arts study that incorporates one or more art forms; or 2) integrated study of arts and non-arts subjects collaboratively taught by teaching artist(s) and classroom teacher(s) as arts-in-education units.
Information sessions for Creative Curricula will be held at locations in Manhattan on July 17, August 8, and August 30, 2012. Sessions include a review of the program and useful information to help applicants put together a strong proposal. All applicants are required to attend an information session before applying. AN RSVP is required.
Visit the LMCC Web site for complete program guidelines, application procedures, and details on attending one of the mandatory information sessions.
