Nominations of Outstanding Investigators Invited for Lupus Insight Prize
Nominations of Outstanding Investigators Invited for Lupus Insight Prize
With the goal of recognizing and honoring significant insights in scientific investigation relevant to understanding the causes, biology, treatment, or cure of lupus, and to stimulate further advances leading to improved outcomes for patients with lupus, the Alliance for Lupus Research, the Lupus Foundation of America, and the Lupus Research Institute have created the Lupus Insight Prize. The prize will provide research funds to an outstanding investigator with a documented record of creativity, innovation, and productivity in an area of research that is applicable to the pathogenesis or treatment of lupus and who is judged to have a high likelihood for generating further significant advances.
Although candidates for prize will be reviewed for their achievements and assessed for their creativity and insight, the most important criteria for selection is the potential for future advances that will impact patients with lupus.
Nominations of basic, clinical, and translational scientists of any age or rank affiliated with an academic, biomedical, research, or government institution in the United States will be accepted. Nominations will of investigators working in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry will not be accepted. Co-Investigators or teams of investigators are not eligible for the prize. Only one nomination will be accepted per investigator. Candidates should not already possess a grant award to pursue the aims described in the research narrative for the Lupus Insight Prize.
The prize recipient will be awarded $200,000 to be used for research dedicated to advancing understanding of the genetic, environmental, molecular, immunologic, or cellular aspects of lupus and/or its treatment. The prize must be used within three years from the date it is awarded. Nominations for the prize should represent a collaboration between the candidate and a nominator. Each nominator must submit a Letter of Intent/Letter of Nomination by July 31, 2012. The full application must be submitted by the candidate no later than October 1, 2012. The prize recipient will be announced and honored publicly in 2013 in a ceremony hosted by the three sponsoring organizations.
