New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Invites Grant Applications for Louisiana Arts and Culture Programs
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Invites Grant Applications for Louisiana Arts and Culture Programs
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works "to promote, preserve, perpetuate, and encourage the music, arts, culture, and heritage of communities in Louisiana through festivals, programs, and other cultural, educational, civic, and economic activities."
The foundation annually reinvests the proceeds from Jazz Fest directly into Louisiana communities — in the form of grants to arts and educational organizations — to support projects that reflect the foundation's mission.
The foundation is accepting applications in four categories of Community Partnership Grants for its 2012-13 grant cycle.
Jazz & Heritage After-School and Summer Education Programs in Music, Arts, and Cultural Traditions — This category supports afterschool and summer arts education programs offered by nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Eligible programs include work within the disciplines of music, dance, theater, visual arts, literature, culinary arts, cultural traditions, folk life, and media arts. Organizations may apply for funding to pay the professional service fees of the artists or educators who will do the instruction.
Jazz & Heritage In-School Education Programs in Music, Arts, and Cultural Traditions — This category supports in-school music and arts education programs at Louisiana public K-12 schools during regular school hours. Programs eligible for funding include work within the disciplines of music, dance, theater, visual arts, literature, culinary arts, cultural traditions, folk life, and media arts. Schools may apply for funding to purchase or repair instruments and other supplies, or to cover part of an arts teacher's salary.
Jazz Journey Presenting: Festivals and Concerts in Music and Performing Arts — This category provides funding to nonprofit organizations that hire Louisiana musicians or other performing artists to perform at cultural events. This grant can only be applied to live public performance fees paid to musicians, dancers, actors, and other onstage performers.
Jazz & Heritage Archive: Documentation and Preservation — This category supports the creation or exhibition of art works that document or interpret the indigenous culture of Louisiana. The category is open to individuals and nonprofit organizations seeking to record or film an event, or for artistic projects in visual art or photography (including exhibitions), performing arts, literature, film, the Internet, or other media.
For all grant categories, the maximum amount of a grant request is $5,000. All applicants must match Jazz & Heritage Foundation grant funding with other funds by a ratio of at least one to one. Funded activities must occur between September 1, 2012, and August 31, 2013.
Applicants may submit only one application in only one category per grant cycle.
Complete program guidelines for each grant category and application forms are available at the foundation Web site.
