Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Invites Nurse Researchers to Apply for Pediatric Cancer Patient Care Grants
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Invites Nurse Researchers to Apply for Pediatric Cancer Patient Care Grants
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation that has evolved from a young cancer patient's front-yard lemonade stand to a national foundation for childhood cancer, awards funding through its Nursing Grants Program to improve quality of life for young cancer patients and their families.
The program is designed to encourage nursing research at all levels of practice. The program's goal is to invest in research that can help nurses find better ways to care for children undergoing cancer treatment. Funding is offered in three categories. In each category, the goals of the project must include plans to disseminate and share findings to improve nursing care for children with cancer.
The ALSF Explorer Awards (Mentored Nurse Researcher) are designed to support the efforts of nurse researchers, with both mentor and institutional commitment, to accomplish small research projects with goals that relate to improving nursing care or quality of life for children with cancer and their families. Examples of fundable projects include collecting information to answer a nursing question related to the care of a child with cancer or applying research-based evidence to improve pediatric cancer nursing practices at an institution. The project's principal investigator must have a master's or doctoral degree, a minimum of two years' experience in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing, and may not have received more than $5,000 in research funding ( internal or external) . The nurse research mentor must have a minimum of a master's degree (Ph.D. is preferred) and leadership experience in nurse research studies. Grants of $10,000 per year for two years to cover direct costs will be awarded.
The ALSF Pathfinder Awards (Intermediate Nurse Researcher) are designed to financially support research conducted by more experienced nurse researchers who have the support and commitment of their institution. Project goals must relate to improving nursing care or quality of life for children with cancer and their families. Such projects may collect information to answer a nursing question related to care of the child with cancer or may be designed to apply research-based evidence to improve pediatric cancer nursing practice at the nurse's institution. Awards may not be used to supplement other support for a large project. The project's principal investigator must have a master's or doctoral degree, must have a minimum of five years' experience in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing, and must not have received more than $15,000 of other research funding (internal and external ). An individual or small group of nurses may apply. Interdisciplinary project applications are eligible providing the nurse applicant is the project leader. Grants of $20,000 per year for two years to cover direct costs will be awarded.
The ALSF Discovery Awards (Independent Nurse Researcher) are designed to support experienced investigators working to investigate topics and issues related to the quality of nursing care and quality of life for children with cancer. The project's principal investigator must have a master's or doctoral degree and must have a minimum of five years' experience in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing. An individual or small group of nurses may apply. The applicant must document evidence of previously completed successful research and published results. Interdisciplinary project applications are eligible if the nurse applicant is the project leader. Grants of $50,000 per year for two years of direct costs will be awarded.
