Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma Invites Applications for Ochberg Fellowship Program

Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma Invites Applications for Ochberg Fellowship Program

The Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma invites midcareer journalists to apply for the 2012 Ochberg Fellowship Program, a seminar program for journalists who want to deepen their knowledge of emotional trauma and psychological injury and improve coverage of violence, conflict, and tragedy. For the first time, the program is accepting applications from journalists worldwide.

Fellows will attend an intensive weeklong program (October 22 to 26, 2012) of seminars and discussions at Columbia University in New York City. Program activities include background briefings by interdisciplinary experts in the trauma and mental health fields; conversations with journalist colleagues on issues of ethics, craft, and other aspects of professional practice; and a host of other opportunities for intellectual engagement and peer learning.

Fellowships are open to print, broadcast, and online reporters, as well as photographers, editors, and producers with no fewer than five years' full-time journalism experience. Applicants' work must demonstrate journalistic excellence and a strong track record of covering violence and its impact on individuals, families, or communities. Fellows must be fluent in spoken English.

Ten to fifteen fellows will be selected. Approximately half of this year's participants will be based in North America, with the balance drawn from Central and South America, Europe, the Asia Pacific region, Africa, and the Mideast.

The fellowship covers all travel, accommodations, and other expenses directly related to program participation.

For complete program guidelines and application procedures, visit the Dart Center Web site.
