Entertainment Software Association Foundation Announces Award Program for Incorporation of Video Games Into K-12 Classrooms

Entertainment Software Association Foundation Announces Award Program for Incorporation of Video Games Into K-12 Classrooms

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation, in partnership with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, the Federation of American Scientists, the Association for Middle Level Education, and the California Endowment, have announced the Education Challenge Grant Program, a new funding opportunity for K-12 educators seeking to incorporate computer and video games into their curricula. The competition is designed to help foster a unified movement around the incorporation of video games into the classroom environment.

All schools wanting to utilize computers and video games to strengthen their current curricular offerings or create new learning experiences for their students are encouraged to apply. The awards will be based on the originality and creativity of lesson plans that reflect the contributions that games make to a child's learning.

A judging panel of educators and game developers will choose the winners based on their demonstrated ability to utilize computer and video games to both strengthen their current curricular offerings and create new learning experiences for students. Three prizes in the amounts of $40,000, $20,000 and $15,000 will be awarded to the most innovative entries to use toward implementing the proposed lesson.

All proposals must be submitted by a K-12 teacher, administrator, or other educator, and must be implemented in a public, private, parochial, charter, magnet, or other accredited nonprofit school in the United States.

Visit the ESA Foundation Web site for complete program guidelines and the application form.
