Bingham Foundation Invites Letters of Inquiry for Environmental Programs to Address Hydraulic Fracturing in New York, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, or Virginia

The Cleveland-based William Bingham Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations in Cleveland and nationally, with some focus on communities where the foundation's trustees reside.

From time to time, the foundation selects a particular area of interest for grant requests from organizations with which it does not already have a relationship. In 2012, the foundation will accept Letters of Inquiry from not-for-profit, non-governmental organizations currently addressing environmental issues related to hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus Shale region of New York, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, and Virginia. Applications will be accepted for programs conducting baseline water testing in areas of oil and gas drilling in the defined area.

This is a one-time grant; requests for the addition of new staff positions will not be accepted, nor will requests from start-up organizations. Applicants must demonstrate experience with water testing and must possess the organizational capacity to conduct the project.

After reviewing all applications, the foundation will select one application for development into a complete proposal to be considered by the foundation's board of trustees in July 2012.

The maximum grant amount will be $25,000.
