Knight Arts Challenge Miami Invites Innovative Ideas to Transform South Florida Communities Through the Arts

A program of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Knight Arts Challenge Miami is a community-wide contest to fund the best ideas for the arts in South Florida. This five-year, $40 million initiative is designed to draw the most innovative and engaging ideas out of local organizations and individuals seeking to transform the community through the arts.

The contest invites the submission of innovative ideas in the arts from nonprofits, for-profits, and individuals. Entries must follow three rules: 1) the idea is arts-related; 2) the project takes place in or benefits South Florida; and 3) additional funding will be found to match the Knight Foundation grant on a 1:1 basis.

The contest is open to applicants of all nationalities and ages. Projects are eligible if the program or project will take place in Miami-Dade or Broward, or if it takes place outside of Miami but benefits the arts in Miami. The program's focus is on Miami-Dade and Broward counties, but it is open to outstanding ideas from all of Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties.

Entrants selected to receive funding will have approximately one year from the time they receive a grant to match Knight Foundation funding. There is no pre-set maximum contribution from the foundation.
