DAISY Foundation Announces 2012 Patient Care Research Grant Program for Nurses
DAISY Foundation Announces 2012 Patient Care Research Grant Program for Nurses
As part of its mission to honor the work of nurses on behalf of patients and their families, the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation provides funding to nurses who wish to conduct nursing research and evidence-based practice projects designed to improve the treatment of patients with auto-immune diseases and cancer.
The foundation's J. Patrick Barnes Grant program seeks to support nurses who continually evaluate their practice, seek answers to clinical questions to improve their practice, and change their practice based on evidence and evaluation of that change. Nurses are encouraged to apply whether or not they have research/EBP experience.
Two types of grants are available: research grants of up to $5,000 for studies that involve clinical research that directly benefits patients and/or families; and evidence-based practice project grants of up to $2,000 that use patient-focused data to study and develop improved nursing practices.
Successful applicants become eligible to apply for subsequent funding to share their findings at professional conferences. The Lynne Doll Grants for Dissemination of Findings will provide Barnes grantees with up to $2,000 each for expenses and fees for attending or presenting at a professional conference.
To be eligible, the principal investigator of a study must be a registered nurse with a current license. Research must impact patients or family members of patients with an auto-immune disease or cancer. Nurse clinicians must play a meaningful role in the study or project in its conceptualization, data collection, analysis, and/or reporting.
The Barnes Grant program will have two funding cycles in 2012. The first deadline to submit a Letter of Intent is April 2, 2012. The LOI deadline for the fall round is September 14, 2012.
