Taubman Foundation Seeks Grant Applications From Roanoke Valley Arts and Cultural Organizations

Taubman Foundation Seeks Grant Applications From Roanoke Valley Arts and Cultural Organizations

The Taubman Foundation's Sustainability Grants program, a $2.5 million funding initiative founded by philanthropists Nick and Jenny Taubman to benefit arts and cultural organizations in the Roanoke Valley area of Virginia, is accepting applications for its second and final year.

Last year, the program distributed $1.25 million in grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 to eighteen regional arts organizations. This year's program will again award a total of $1.25 million; however, the grant minimum has been reduced to $10,000 to allow for more recipients.

The program is designed to help strengthen the operational financial underpinnings of qualifying institutions. Grants must be used to do one or more of the following: significantly reduce or eliminate operating deficits, pay down or eliminate debt, enhance existing revenue streams, or create new revenue streams. Grants may be used for a capital project only if a case can be made that such a project will satisfy the requirement of significantly reducing or eliminating the organization's operating deficit.

To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or part of a nonprofit organization or government entity headquartered within a twenty-mile radius of Roanoke city center, conduct five hundred hours of programming a year, have an operating budget of at least $100,000, and have at least one paid professional staff member who oversees daily operations. Organizations must have central to their missions one or more of the following: history, art, the performing arts, natural history, archaeology, science, or other cultural interests that enhance the community's quality of life.

Organizations that received grants last year are encouraged to reapply, but the program will give priority to organizations that did not receive grants.

Complete program information and application procedures are available at the Web site of Bryan and Jordan Consulting LLC, the firm that administers the grants.
