Open Society Institute-Baltimore Invites Applications for Community Fellows and Campaign for Black Male Achievement Fellows
Open Society Institute-Baltimore Invites Applications for Community Fellows and Campaign for Black Male Achievement Fellows
The Open Society Institute-Baltimore is accepting applications for the 2012 class of Baltimore Community Fellows.
Launched in 1998, the annual fellowship program seeks dynamic activists and social entrepreneurs interested in implementing projects that address problems in underserved communities in Baltimore. For fellowships beginning in the fall of 2012, awards are in the amount of $60,000 over eighteen months.
Fellowships are for initiatives that take place in BaltimoreCity. Applicants may come from any field, including but not limited to business, management, the arts, law, medicine, education, architecture, and engineering. Individuals from underserved communities and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants need not be from Baltimore, but should be knowledgeable about social and economic justice issues affecting Baltimore's communities. Fellows must be willing to participate fully in meetings scheduled for the community fellows.
Applicants may either apply for a fellowship 1) to work under the auspices of a nonprofit organization in Baltimore City; or 2) to work independently. In cases where the fellowship takes place at an organization in Baltimore, applicants must secure sponsorship from that organization. The applicant's project must be harmonious with the mission of the host organization. Individuals currently receiving wages or a salary to undertake the proposed project are not eligible to apply.
Fellows may not use stipends to supplant funding for activities or projects that the host organization is already implementing. The program does not award fellowships to conduct research or to implement lobbying initiatives.
In addition to the ten slots that are available for the Baltimore Community Fellowships, OSI-Baltimore has announced two additional fellowships. The new fellowships, sponsored by the Open Society Foundations' Campaign for Black Male Achievement, will support individuals working with black men and boys in the areas of education, family, and work. These fellowships are reserved for individuals who are working to launch organizations or expand existing programs dedicated to black male achievement in Baltimore.
Fellowship applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the program's orientation sessions in February.
Visit the OSI-Baltimore Web site for complete information on the Baltimore Community Fellowships and the two new CBMA fellowships, application materials, and details on the orientation sessions.
