Families USA Invites Applications for Healthcare Fellowships

Families USA Invites Applications for Healthcare Fellowships

Families USA, a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans, is accepting applications for the Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice and the Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice.

Each year, one person is chosen for each of these fellowships to work in Families USA's Washington, D.C. office for a year.

The Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice is designed to foster the advancement of social justice through participation in healthcare advocacy work that focuses on the unique challenges facing many communities of color. The fellowship is designed to increase the number of low-income, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian American, Black/African American, Latino, and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander social justice leaders. Candidates must demonstrate an interest in healthcare policy as a tool for reducing racial and ethnic health disparities and in using organizing and advocacy skills to achieve social change. Applicants also should demonstrate a commitment to contributing to social justice advocacy following their year of hands-on experience as a fellow. The fellowship runs from August 2012 through July 2013, and the fellow will receive a compensatory package that includes an annual salary of approximately $38,000 and excellent healthcare benefits. (Deadline: January 27, 2012.)

The Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice was created to inspire and develop the next generation of healthcare justice leaders. During his/her year-long tenure, the fellow will work on a variety of healthcare justice issues and develop an understanding of the federal legislation process. S/he also will be exposed to different advocacy strategies, including producing analytic reports, disseminating effective messages through the media, coalition building, and e-advocacy techniques. The fellowship will run from August 2012 through July 2013, and the fellow will receive a compensatory package that includes an annual salary of approximately $38,000 and excellent healthcare benefits. (Deadline: January 10, 2012.)
