Cultural Development Corporation Invites Proposals From Washington D.C. Area Artists
The Cultural Development Corporation, an organization that works to create opportunities for artists and arts organizations and improve the quality of life in the Washington, D.C., area, is requesting proposals for exhibitions in the Flashpoint Gallery for the September 2010 to August 2011 season. The request is open to artists, independent curators, and arts organizations presenting contemporary work in any medium.
The CuDC opened Flashpoint in 2003 as an arts incubator offering strategic business services and affordable arts venues and office space in downtown D.C. Facilities include a contemporary gallery, theater lab, dance studio, and shared office space for CuDC and Flashpoint's resident organizations.
This year, for the first time, CuDC is partnering with the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region to make grants to artists participating in Flashpoint and other programs through its Creative Communities Fund.
The fund will provide project grants to artists creating new work as part of the Flashpoint Gallery, the Source Festival, and the Mead Theatre Lab Program. Grants are designed to support emerging and mid-career artists, artists exploring new and challenging ideas, and artists working to reach the next level in their careers. Artist/projects selected for funding will be awarded up to $3,000 each.
To be considered for CCF support, artists must have lived in the greater Washington D.C., region for at least two years and work in the fields of dance, installation, film, literary arts, multidisciplinary art, music, new media, performance art, playwriting, sound art, spoken word, storytelling, theater, video, or visual arts.
Complete program guidelines are available at the CuDC Web site.
