American Brain Tumor Association Announces 2010 Fellowship and Translational Research Funding Opportunities
American Brain Tumor Association Announces 2010 Fellowship and Translational Research Funding Opportunities
The American Brain Tumor Association is accepting applications for its 2010 Basic Research Fellowship and Translational Research Grant programs.
ABTA Basic Research Fellowships are two-year training awards that support the salaries of young researchers entering the field of brain tumor research. Often the first award of a researcher's career, the fellowship provides the opportunity for young, bright, and motivated investigators to learn from mentors. The fellowships are for $80,000 each, payable over two years ($35,000 salary support and $5,000 in discretionary funds per year). Criteria for selection include the quality of the individual candidate, including their commitment to neuro-oncology; the quality of the training program mentorship; and the proposed research.
ABTA Translational Grants are designed to help scientists further develop studies on the cusp of moving from the laboratory into patient testing. These one-year grants of $75,000 each support the collection of the preclinical data researchers need to apply for major funding from other sources, such as the National Cancer Institute or the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Criteria for funding include the quality and therapeutic potential of the research, as well as the quality of the laboratory environment and the investigator.
Program guidelines are available at the ABTA Web site.
