Creative Work Fund Invites Letters of Inquiry From San Francisco Artists Collaborating With Nonprofits

Creative Work Fund Invites Letters of Inquiry From San Francisco Artists Collaborating With Nonprofits

The Creative Work Fund is a grantmaking program for San Francisco Bay Area artists that invites artists and nonprofit organizations to create new art works through collaborations. The fund is a program of the Walter and Elise Haas Fund that also is supported by grants from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the James Irvine Foundation.

The fund is accepting Letters of Inquiry for projects featuring one or more performing or visual artists collaborating with nonprofit 501(c)(3)organizations. Collaborating artists must reside and organizations must be based in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, or Stanislaus counties.

Performing artists may be creators (e.g., playwrights, choreographers, composers) or performers. The performing arts encompass dance, opera, performance art, theater, or vocal and instrumental music. Visual artists include those with experience in painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, installation art, public art, drawing, crafts, graphics, ceramics, design, or artists' books. (Video and sound-based installation artists and artists creating new genre, time-based works should apply as media artists in a future year.)

The fund encourages artists to collaborate with nonprofit organizations of all kinds.

In 2010, the fund will award approximately $600,000 in total grants to nonprofit organizations and collaborating artists. Grants will range from $10,000 to $40,000 each. Projects are expected to be completed within two years, but those of longer duration will be considered.

Visit the Creative Work Fund Web site for complete program information.
