Brookdale Foundation Seeks Applications for Relatives as Parents Program Local, Regional, and State Seed Grant Initiatives

The Brookdale Foundation's Relatives as Parents Program is designed to encourage and promote the creation or expansion of services for grandparents and other relatives who have taken on the responsibility of parenting when biological parents are unable to care for their children.

The program will award seed grants of $10,000 over a two-year period to local, regional, and state public agencies.

Up to thirty local and regional programs will be selected from within the United States. The sponsoring organization must have 501(c)(3) or equivalent tax-exempt status. The seed grant must be matched 100 percent either in-kind or in cash before the initiation of the program. The deadline for the submission of local and regional proposals is December 3, 2009.

Up to five public state agencies will be selected to receive grants. Agencies from the following states are eligible to apply: Alaska, California, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, and Vermont. The deadline for the submission of state proposals is January 7, 2010.

Selected applicants will be invited and required, as a guest of the foundation, to attend the program's National Orientation and Training Conference, April 30 - May 1, 2010, in St. Louis.
