Funding Available for Pancreatic Cancer Research

Funding Available for Pancreatic Cancer Research

The American Association for Cancer Research has partnered with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to offer a total of $2 million in funding for pancreatic cancer research.

Qualified candidates are invited to apply. Four grant mechanisms are available: Pathway to Leadership Grant (new); Fellowship Award; Career Development Award (funding level doubled); and Innovative Grant (formerly Pilot Grant, and changed to involve a new, streamlined application process).

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Pathway to Leadership Grant: This new grant opportunity is designed to ensure the future leadership of pancreatic cancer research by supporting outstanding early career investigators starting out in their postdoctoral research positions and continuing through their successful transition to independence. To qualify, applicants must be in the first five years of their postdoctoral or clinical research fellowship. The grant will provide up to five years of support, for a total of $600,000, consisting of two phases: a two-year mentored phase, during which the recipient will receive $75,000 per year and is expected to work closely with his/her mentor; and a three-year independent phase, during which the recipient is expected to be in an independent research position and will be funded at $150,000 per year. One grant will be awarded. (Deadline: October 28, 2009.)

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Fellowship: This opportunity will provide a one-year grant of $45,000 to a postdoctoral fellow or clinical research fellow in the first, second, or third year of postdoctoral training to support salary and benefits. Designed to attract young scientists to careers in pancreatic cancer research, the research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature and must have direct application and relevance to pancreatic cancer. One fellowship will be awarded. (Deadline: October 28, 2009.)

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Career Development Awards: This opportunity will provide a two-year grant of $200,000 to encourage and support early career scientists who are in the first four years of their first full-time faculty appointment to conduct pancreatic cancer research and to establish successful career paths in the field. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer. Three grants will be awarded. (Deadline: October 28, 2009.)

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Innovative Grants: Formerly known as the Pilot Grants, these grants have been renamed to emphasize a focus on funding new, creative, and cutting edge ideas and approaches. The Innovative Grants are a two-year grant of $200,000 each for independent junior and senior investigators to develop and study new ideas and approaches that have direct application and relevance to pancreatic cancer. Applications are invited from researchers already involved in the field of pancreatic cancer research as well as from investigators with experience in other areas of cancer research who have promising ideas or research approaches that can be applied to pancreatic cancer. Four grants will be awarded. (Letters of Intent Deadline: October 5, 2009.)
